257 Noida projects don’t have pollution, eco nod

Delhi/NCR
The Uttar Pradesh pollution control board on September 4 shot off notices to 257 ongoing projects and some established educational institutes in Noida and the Yamuna Expressway region for not procuring pollution or environmental clearances before starting construction.

The UPPCB has asked all these 257 buildings to update the UPPCB on the status of their ongoing constructions and to procure the necessary clearances. Senior officials of the department claimed that if any builder failed to get these clearances, they would not be granted completion certificates.

“We have sent 244 notices directly to housing scheme builders of ongoing projects under the Noida Authority and 13 notices to some builders and institutes under the purview of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority. The notices have asked them to update us about the status of their construction immediately. We have sent a set of copies of all these notices to the Noida Authority and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, respectively,” said Atulesh Yadav, regional officer, UPPCB, Gautam Budh Nagar.

Yadav said it is imperative for all builders to procure a no-objection certificate as well as an environmental clearance from two different departments of the Pollution Control Board before the commencement of construction. And after the completion of the construction, they need to procure a consent to operate.

“We have dug up gross violations in these areas where some builders have commenced construction without either pollution clearances or environmental clearances. We have written to the Noida Authority about this in June. No action has been taken till now. In the Yamuna Expressway zone, there are running institutes which do not have these basic, mandatory clearances,” Yadav said.

“If the notices are not paid attention to, we will even revoke completion certificates and take recourse to legal action. After this first round of notification, we will go for direct inspection of sites soon,” Yadav added.
